Indoor pollution

People have known since ancient times that there is a link between pollution and poor health. Many scientists believe our health is in trouble, because we have had pol-luted land, air and water for too long. But most citizens have the greatest contact with toxic pollutants not outside but inside their homes, offices and cars. Many cities have air filled with pollution called smog. This pollution is so bad that the sky looks brown, not blue.

The main sources of indoor pollutants are right under peoples noses - dry-cleaned clothes, dusty carpets, fumes from cooking and heating and cigarette smoke. Of course this list is incomplete.

Indoor air and house dust are full of poi-sons that can be carried in on peoples shoes. Carpets are most troublesome. They contain dangerous pollutants and bacteria, even if people vacuum them regularly. Wiping ones feet on a door-mat reduces the amount of pol-lutants in a carpet by a factor of six. But if you remove your shoes before entering it is even more effective. These acts are very sim-ple, but useful.

- Brother says he wont go to school tomorrow. Sister asks him about the reasons. Hes got a temperature. He thinks its the flu. She asks him if he has called the doctor. He answers that hes waiting for the doc-tor to visit. Daughter asks her mother where her insurance policy is. Mom wonders what the matter is. Shes got an earache and needs to see the doctor.

Two friends meet. One of them feels awful. The friend wonders what the matter is with him. He feels sorry about that and gives advice about consulting the doctor and home remedies.
